Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be teaching the classes?
Dr. Sandy Strick, USC  professor, School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management is the Director of the Wine and Beverage Institute.  Dr. Strick, a Certified Wine Educator with almost two decades of teaching experience, will instruct  many of the classes.  In addition, certified and experienced wine professionals will teach selected classes.

Where do the classes meet?
  Classes will meet in the magnificently restored McCutchen House on the USC Horseshoe.

Do I have to take the classes in order?
Although the courses are offered in the order listed , they are all designed as stand alone courses.  This  means you do not need the information taught in previous sessions to be successful in the course of your choice.

Can you provide a list of the wine labels you will be highlighting in these courses?
  Throughout these classes, the focus will be on wine types and characteristics, never on a particular winery or label.

Does completing the requirements for a wine certificate guarantee me a job?
  No.  However, if you are interested in a related career you will acquire skills and contacts that could help you pursue this goal.

What are the minimum admittance requirements?
  You should have a high school diploma or a GED and you must be able to prove that you are 21.
